This is a prototype for decentralised electrochemical wastewater treatment system developed by NOAH Water Solutions in Belgium. Not only is the system non-chemical and non-biological in its wastewater treatment method, it goes a step further and dry the sludge it produces instantly – a distinctive capability to similar offerings in the market.

In assembling the prototype, the SINRMAS team worked hand in hand with the Jumpstart team, to assemble the loose components of the system from start through to actual functionality. The process involved assembling, wiring, and testing each component and then putting the complete system to the test by testing its wastewater treatment efficacy and then analysing the final result.

We were excited that the system was able to disinfect the wastewater as expected. We will be running further tests on different types of water, and we hope to share the laboratory test results in the future. Jumpastart has been requested to look into ways in which the system can be assembled in South Africa at reduced cost to the consumer once NOAH Water Solutions has concluded all its design work. This, however, is subject to NOAH Water Solutions deeming it fit.

SINRMAS will continue to probe other relevant market-related questions as part of the market feasibility study it is conducting to give NOAH Water Solutions a deeper understanding of the South African decentralised wastewater treatment systems’ landscape.
